Most of Japanese wouldn't be able to answer this question. I think both are very close. but...
1. この指輪が欲しくてたまらない
2. この指輪が欲しくてならない
I feel [2.] sentence is more formal than [1.] and I rarely hear [2.] in conversation.
[1.] is telling strongly your 'WANT' to me. sometimes we use this expression in conversation.
